Giving the body a nice stretch is always a good idea. Even
though not everybody has time to visit a Vegas yoga studio, they can still reap the benefits of a yoga practice through
these simple variations of office yoga.
Do a Modified Crescent
As stated by an article from Do You Yoga, the crescent moon
pose is a great way to stretch the spine, clear the head, and release tension
from the sides of the body. Sit on the chair and extend the arms up but make
sure to avoid hunching the shoulders. Find a comfortable stretch and once this
is established, lean to the right stay for 2+3 breaths and do the other side.
Relive Tension in the Hands
Redirect the blood flow to the hands, the wrists, and the
fingers by doing simple movements like wrist rotations, or shaking out the
hands. Giving the wrists and fingers a nice stretch and counter stretch are
also a great way of relaxing the tension caused by countless hours of use.
An Easy Hip Stretch
Sitting for long periods of time can cause an imbalance or
misalignment along the hip area. For this stretch, make sure the feet are firstplaced
flat on the floor. After this lift on foot and align the ankle with the top of
the knee. Stay here for five to ten breaths, and make sure to do the other side
as well. For a little extra stretch, give the upper body a little twist.
Office Chaturanga
Chaturanga, or the yoga push up, is a staple for those who
do yoga in Vegas. This move not only
strengthens the muscles of the core and arms, but also relaxes the neck. To do
this, align the hands and feet to be shoulder width apart. Place the hands on
the edge of the desk and make a diagonal line with the floor. Slowly lower the
body making sure to engage the muscles of the core and keep the elbows close to
the body.
Heart Opening Pose
Do a modified upward dog as a counter stretch, for the
chaturanga. To start, place the hands on the edge of the desk, shoulder width
apart. Slowly lower the hips and give the back a nice stretch. Make sure to
avoid putting pressure on the lower back by engaging the muscles of the legs.
Doing this yoga poses while at work will definitely do the
body and the brain some good. For those who enjoyed these stretches, try out a
